In the spring of 2014, Larry and his wife Carol answered God’s call to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the residents of Brooke Knoll Village, an assisted living facility in Avon, Indiana. With the support of our home church, El-Bethel Baptist Church, the Church on Wheels Ministry was launched.
The idea was to bring a complete church service to the residents each and every Sunday afternoon. Oh, how God has blessed this ministry! It wasn’t long before He opened the door for us to bring “church” to the residents of Summit Place West also. None of this had been planned.. it’s just the result of going where God leads us.
A typical service opens in prayer followed by congregational hymn singing. Often times, a “special” will be sung before Larry delivers the Word of God. It’s an amazing thing to witness God’s power in lives of those who attend. Over the years, many have come to know Jesus as their personal Savior. Many others have re-affirmed their faith in Jesus Christ.
It was during one of these services that God moved Larry, of all people, to sing in front of people for the first time.
Carol grew up singing beautiful harmonies in church with her Dad, Mom, Brother’s and Sisters. As a soloist, Carol brings an almost angelic sound to every song she sings. She took on the job of encouraging and coaching Larry’s new-found gift. It wasn’t long after that when they began singing duets together.
It was around that time that Carol called her sister Patty to fill in missing parts. Larry and the Hooten sisters started singing together both at church and at nursing facilities. Soon, God opened more doors for them to sing at other places.
